Olivares masterfully blends atmospheric lighting, dynamic angles, and seasonal contrasts to bring Amsterdams charm to life, using his knowledge of Dutch light and his expedition approach to capture Amsterdam from all angles. For this book, he flew in helicopters above the city, climbed church towers and apartment buildings, walked through squares and parks, photographed from a boat on the water, but also swam underwater. He spoke with residents and visitors and studied the city for 10 years and during 4 seasons. In the book, Olivares created his own “paintings” of Amsterdam and captured the dynamics of this vibrant city in a pure, authentic way.
